Editorial Standards
How INDICES sources, verifies and publishes what you read here. Short version: if we cannot verify it, we do not print it.
Where facts come from
The manufacturer comes first. Specifications, prices and imagery in the Database are taken from each brand’s own published pages, and every reference links to the page its figures came from. When a story cannot be confirmed on an official source, it runs only when two independent, reputable specialist outlets carry it. Rumors and leaks are not published as news.
What happens when a fact is missing
Some manufacturers publish less than others. Rolex prints no prices and no case thickness; Casio prints no diameter for a case that is not round. Where a figure is not published, the row is simply absent from the page. A blank is honest. A guess dressed up as data is not, so we do not print one. Records that fall short of this standard carry a visible review flag until they are fixed.
Prices
A retail price shown as MSRP comes from the manufacturer’s own site and carries the date it was checked. Where a manufacturer publishes no price, the page says so. A market price, when shown, is labelled with the named source it was read from and the date it was captured, and is never blended with retail pricing. Figures in other currencies are converted to US dollars at the exchange rate current when the piece was written, and are always marked USD.
Images
Product imagery comes from the manufacturers’ own sites and is credited. Nothing is cropped, stretched or recoloured to fit a layout; every size we serve is a proportional copy of the original. On the rare occasion a visualization is generated rather than photographed, the caption says so plainly, and it is never presented as photography.
Dates
Every reference page carries the date its data was last verified. Every story carries the date it was written and, where launches or discontinuations are reported, the dates that make those claims checkable.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, the record gets fixed, not buried. If you spot an error, a missing reference, or a spec that does not match what the manufacturer publishes, use the contact page. Corrections are reviewed against the sources above and applied to the database itself, so a fix reaches every page that reads from the record.
Independence
No brand pays to be in the Database, and no listing, ranking or omission can be bought. Advertising on the site is served as advertising and looks like it. The editorial record and the ads never trade.
